Scientists believe mankind has evolved over millions of years, from single celled organisms through various incarnations in to our present races. Whether your views allow this concept or not, mankind has existed for thousands of years before this present day. During that time every generation has dealt with reality and struggled to survive storms, droughts, plagues, wars, you name it. At times it may only have been the greatest effort and sacrifice of one now long forgotten soul that allows decendants to walk the earth in health and happiness today. The many in the generations before us have fought hard and together and through their will they where successful, and we are here today as a testament to their success. More than ever before mankind is now capable of realizing the enormous debt owed to its innate will to survive, to those survivors, literally, because never before was so much knowledge available to so many capable of understanding and acting. We can now understand more about our body, our mind, nature and the environment than at any time, ever before. We can understand the miracle of conception, the movement of continents, the nature of the sun. We are the richest and most prosperous generation ever sustained by our planet. Even the poor soul abandoned, starving or drowning has a better chance of survival today than ever before.<br>
Now science has presented us with a new belief. It is a belief that is founded on many observations around the world.
It is a belief like we have when we see thick ice, and we belief we can walk on it, or we see fire and we belief we can
burn our hands in it. It is a profound belief in an imminent reality that can bring about the destruction of mankind, indeed the destruction of life on earth. It has been presented to us. We are the generation that can decide the faith of billions upon billions of living souls and creatures that will see our time as the single most important opportunity for mankind to proof its resolve. The single most important generation for the next million years is our generation. We are the ones that now destroy the oceans. We are the ones that now turn this earth into an acid hell with dead seas, droughts and fires, primordial storms and uncontrollable turmoil. We are the ones that turn this blue planet into a place to once again struggle and fight for survival, perhaps beyond the capacity of many to survive. Those hundreds of generations that could be celebrating our time as the time humanity rose united to the ultimate challenge may never even get that chance. We know this now and we should stop and ask ourselves: Are we realizing this? Or more importantly: Do we want this? Do you want this? Is this to be your legacy? Let us say NO to this. No! We will rear into action. Our paralyzed ancestors have not survived, those who felt comforted by perceived helplessness did not bring us about as we are today. We are not made from such coward breed. We are the ones with a hard and unstoppable urge to deal with whatever threatens us. We can wake up today and see the future we want. The future we can and must now choose in this moment of clarity. The future that will ask of us to once again be smart, cautious and humble. It is a future which the more we embrace it, the more it will embrace us. It is with our conscious minds that we will make our choices from this moment on, and they will be choices conscious of the life we give to future generations. We must welcome this power and understand our relevance on a geological timescale.
<br> Each of us today is part of the single most relevant generation that ever existed. So live as though you know this in your heart, that you too have to make changes, that you too have to be clever and agile about your role. We are all our future has to work with. We must be less focussed on what we want to enjoy and more focussed on the impact of our preferences. We must engage reality and understand better what we inflict upon the world by satisfying our daily needs the way we do. We must learn the importance of our choices, and ask whether the options we choose from really are all options. We must withdraw support from those who refuse to probe and understand our present reality. They are our destroyers. Work to enlighten them and help those who teach fact. We must embrace technology that can sustainably reverse the current trends. Nuclear power will eat up billions, pollute for centuries and only last a few years. Reject nuclear! Spend the money on solar or algae farms for biofuel. Demand reforestation, demand cessation of tropical deforestation. Object to long range transportation of consumer goods, don’t travel by plane if possible, demand subsidies to invest in clean alternatives now. Stop supporting the domestic hydrogen moneypit, Demand from farmers they reuse the methane their lifestock produces. Buy fluorescent or LED lightbulbs. Do all the things you can imagine that will make an impact now and you will find the race has only just begun. It is a race we are in together, a race in which no race or faith or filosophy will be exempt. No one will have license to be ignorant. We can not hide in our lifestyles. Together we bear the biggest responsibility ever born in our history. We must simply start to make changes wherever we can, we will start making them in the home and in the office now, we will start on our farms and in our factories, we will start while on the job or our holiday, in groups and communities, we will never surrender until this threath is averted. We will awaken our leaders, we will awaken our neigbours, we will awaken our children and our parents to this responsibility. We will have the guts to relent our consumption and just do what we want ourselves to do. Without dispair or discord we will rise to greatness. Without losing our culture or faith or philosophy. With love in our heart and fresh resolve to make right now what we can still bend, and break what we must, we’ll survive not only for ourselves, but for the billions that will love us for our legacy.
