Solar Air Heaters
Solar airheaters are simple yet very powerfull means to reduce your heating cost. They are like extra windows allowing the sun to heat the interior of your home.
The simplest air heater must do several things, namely capture sunheat and transport it efficiently into the home.
This can be achieved by constructing a box that can be mounted on the outside of the wall

example of a solar air heater made out of soda cans.

Another way is to build an outside wall out of perforated material that also absorbes heat, this is akin to a trombe wall

Ventilation can be done using a solar panel

Savings example
"There are also additional electrical savings associated with the solar air heating installation because less power is required to draw air through the SolarWallpanels than through the conventional roof top make-up air units. This savings was estimated at $13,500, which combines with the thermal savings of $153,600 to yield a total an- nual savings of $170,000 (using 1996 energy prices)."
