Flood Saltwater Deserts with Seawater

Australian Lake Torrens

If you want water in inland regions, and you have a desalination technology that uses salt water as an energy source, you can irrigate land with fresh water if it is located next to a salt water basin. Evaporation and rain will wash the surrounding land of salt contamination. Salt Deserts are a liability if left dry, because of the salt blowing over fertile land. Flooding them with seawater will do no harm, because the desert is already saturated with salt.
