I bought an Elo bike that uses the Sanyo CMU-1 Motor. It is a 24 Volt, 300 Watt motor that augments the torque you give to the pedals by a factor 1 to 23,2.
The bike is pretty sturdy, it carries a battery that doesn;t seem to last very long, but that is irrelevant for this project.
24 Volts 300 Watt means 12,5 Ampere current in use. Can a solar panel suppy that? Of course, 2 180 Watt pannels deliver 11 Amps at 36 Volt. For about 600 Euro you can ride the bike without batteries.
