The world is quickly running out of cheap oil. It is running into an unprecedenter environmental and food calamity. As the problems increase it will matter a lot where you are and what are the local resouces and skills. In order to minimize the hardship while maintaining most of the current wealth there needs to be a new paradigm.
This is Agoracentrism. The agoracentric model takes the town square, the Agora, and draws an imaginary circle around it symbolizing both logistic cost as well as the spirit of local community and culture. People within this circle should be able to provide themselves with all basic needs. What happens over the horizon should not have any impact.
Environmentally Agoracentrism inspires progresses towards durable stewardship and a non carbon based energy infrastructure. Economically it envisions local currency to divide labour and no real need to trade outside the community.
The enemy of Agoracentrism
Throughout history people have formed cartels, groups, and with the advent of the more docile civilized, less challenged humans they hid their unfair practices in laws and patents, which have blocked other technologies and markets. This will not be the case in the Agoracentric world. The system that profits from patents and cartels has created the dependencies.A name for that system is the Trinity. It is the cooperation of the banks, energy companies and consumer industries. It owns the media, it curns our natural resouces without a limit set by human demand, but only by economical ideology.
Agoracentrism is about banning ativity of the Trinity across counties, states, continents and favour a patchwork of autonomous communities. Any part of the trinity who's function has to be retained will have to be under local control.

Increasing The Agoracentric Aspects Of Your Community
Realize you will need to 'fight' for this new societal structure. Simple changes to reduce dependency may show how you are being dependend on to play your role for the Trinity. Even if it is clearly harmfull to you and to society.
The Agoracentric philosophy is meant to make local communities independend and selfsufficient for thier essential needs. Steps can be made to close any dependence gap to ensure that as the dependencies become more costly and fragile, their need has vanished. It is adapting to the future rather than denying it. Humans have lived this way for most of their history.
Agoracentrism eliminates many sources of conflict, as these are usually about resources like water, and fuel. Agoracentrism is about solving problems, not allowing people to create them, maintain them and profit from them. This may mean there needs to be a local block to stand up to the centralized powers, and that is why Agoracentric communities need to help each other.
Two men can train each other to fight, or one can defeat the other and make the other his servant, in the end the two trained fighters will be stronger.
